government has a) no competition, b) no way of negative reinforcement (you can't stop paying your taxes if they do something you think is stupid) and c) WEAPONS. Love them or hate them, but Starbucks never killed anybody with an M-16. And anyone from Pennsylvania knows that if companies or private persons owned roads instead of them being government-owned, after a snowstorm hit you'd see the roads get plowed and salted pretty goddamned quick (whereas government has much, MUCH less of an incentive in doing this in a timely manner).

"the problem isn't the abuse of power, it's the power to abuse." Corporations don't have the power to force its customers to do what they want like the government does. If you have a problem with a corporation then don't do business with them.
