is just a simple tool to write text files
an editor should allow you a lot more functionality, access to a shell in color mode, code writing in color mode, scripting, info, extensible modes, etc...
in other words something like emacs is a lot closer to my concept of an editor
there are features in emacs that are still not duplicated in windows products even after 10 years of being available under emacs
that's a real editor
