From the wikipedia article: "Eventually we must arrive at a comprehensive law of regularity of succession that has no further explanation in the operation of deeper physical laws. It can only be established by the conscious choice of a free moral agent."
In addition to the obvious error in Aquinas' thinking, I add that just because something is unknown does not mean it is unknowable.
