The United States, where drug laws are strictly enforced, has high rates of drug use as well as an astronomical number of its own citizens in jail. 1, 2, resulting indirectly in prison overcrowding and the early release of violent offenders.

This is because the War on Drugs is working. These people have committed crimes and harmed our polity with their actions, and thus belong in jail.
